Where we are coming from
The Lobengula Teens Ministry was started by Pastor Glenn Ncube on 1 May 1995, with help from people like Nicholas Sibanda, Lifa Nkala, Sharon Nkala. The first group of teens who were there when the ministry was launched included Mavis Sibindi, Desmond Nyoni, Nkosana Dube, Trust Ngwenya, Roy Luhanga, Hlezi Nyoni-Nkala, Zakhe, Innocent Dube, among others.
This ministry was launched after realising that teenagers were there in church but invisible under the youth ministry and they could not easily express themselves because youth were a bit grown up and they were too many.
There was also a feeling that a lot of teens were just following but not understanding what was happening. So Pastor Glenn thought of coming to their level to explain some concepts like salvation, among other things, which may not have been easy in a bigger crowd. Since then, the Teens ministry has been growing up to date.
Our drive
To help teens develop spiritually, socially, physically, academically and morally as according to God’s word.
To create a Godly individual who shall be an example in word conversation, faith, purity, love, and in spirit as in 1st Timothy 4:12
To have the majority of teens being able to attend online services.
To witness about Christ in our communities.
What we do
The ChrisTeens Ministry caters for teenagers between the ages of 13 to 18years. They hold their services every Saturday from 9am to 12pm where there is prayer, praise and worship, testimonies and preaching of the word of God. During holidays, the service is shifted from Saturdays to Wednesdays.
Every April, a local teens camp is held out of Bulawayo where they are ministered to, do sporting activities and tour as a way of interaction. In August, a Prayer and Fasting Camp where other teens from other sister churches are invited. Then the whole of December, teens go to Teens Mission, starting from every first week of December and those who would have failed to go for teen missions, there is Bulawayo District Teens Camp (BDT). BDT was introduced recently for all Bulawayo teenagers drawn from all Bulawayo Brethren In Christ Church branches.
Achievements
On the 6th of February 2021 Teens Ministry held an Annual Career Guidance Workshop Online. It was facilitated by Mr. Aziz Ndaba. The workshop helps teenagers identify their careers and talents whilst still young. The program also aims to nature God’s given talents and academic skills.
A leadership seminar aimed at reminding the committee members of their duties (to be done diligently as Proverbs 22:29 states), was held on 27th of February 2021. The seminar, facilitated by Mr. Sizo Maphosa, was a learning curve for the upcoming committee. For instance, for them to learn what is expected of them.
Work in progress
A magazine will be published soon.
The online services that have been updated as well as inviting other teens
The ChristTeens Documentary Project that has been started to gather all information about the history of ChristTeens is soon to be published.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teenagers have not been able to meet for their services. However, the services are now beginning to be conducted under strict adherence to the COVID-19 regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Health. This move will go a long way in reviving the Teens as gathering together brings encouragement, inspiration and empowerment to the Teenagers. More programs and activities are to be explored within the confines of the given COVID-19 regulations.
